“God is good, all the time and all the time God is good and that’s His nature” or is it? This is what my Sunday school teachers taught me and now I am not so sure about this anymore. Did my teachers lie to me?
Is God really as good as He says He is? Does His nature ever change? or at what point does He stop being good? I bet you said the whole “God is good, all the time….” without even reading it to the end because whether you would like to admit to it or not, it has become just another saying. It’s one of those things that you can probably say backwards if given the chance due to how many times you have said it. You don’t even have to be a christian to know this saying because if you are not, I’m sure you have heard it being uttered somewhere at a church or at a function you attended.
Have you ever been in a position where something really bad happened to you or just something that shook your life to the point where you began to question God’s nature? I for one have had several moments where I did but that’s before I understood His nature. Through all of my years of being a christian, It appears to me that His nature ceases to be good when we have bad things happening to us and this doesn’t just happen once, It happens all the time. I’m curious to know why we find it so hard to see the consistency of His nature. God is good and that’s it! It may be hard to swallow when faced with difficulties but the truth is that He doesn’t change and that’s good news for us. Don’t you think that if His nature could change or be altered that it would be hard for us to trust Him? I find it much easier to bank on anyone or anything with a nature that’s predictable.
Maybe we just lack the understanding of what good really means since we live in a world where good isn’t all we see. I am here to remind you that you can bank on God, it’s in His nature to be good and do good. I know at times we are unsure of this truth and may feel as if it’s a lie because after all your current circumstances probably don’t reflect His goodness. Fortunately for us our circumstances aren’t the determining factor of His nature.
I think the fact that His nature never changes is what offends us most because if it did we wouldn’t have to answer the question of whether we trust Him or not. Is it possible that you aren’t even finding it hard to see Him as good but rather you just find it hard to trust Him? If you fully trusted that He is good and His nature only permits Him to be good ALL the time, then you most probably wouldn’t question HIs goodness even when faced with hardships. Beloved, this is more a beckoning for you to lean in and learn to trust Him where you can’t trace Him.
Now let’s say this statement one more time and actually mean it this time “God is good, all the time and all the time, God is good and that’s His nature.” That’s it!
