Surrender

I SURRENDER ALL TO YOU……

“I surrender all to you, everything I give to you, withholding nothing”

If you have grown up in church or have been a christian for a while now, I’m sure you know the rest of the lyrics to this song and have probably sung it countless times. I have not only heard this song numerous times, sung it religiously but I also happen to love it. However most of the times when I have sung it I don’t think I have meant the words everytime. At times, It sort of became monotonous and instead of it having the effect it’s meant to, it simply became just another song to me.

I realize that it’s possible to be a christian and still not fully surrender to christ. Surrender in the easiest way is simply the act of giving oneself up or the act of giving in to something or someone. The way I see it, surrender is giving way to another which means that one has to be out of the way for the other to have their way. It’s the letting go of one and the letting in of another.

Truth is that many of us are still in the way, we aren’t ready to give way to Christ. It’s one of those things that’s easier said than done. Most of us just aren’t ready to give ourselves up willingly. I won’t tell you that I haven’t been there myself because that would be a lie.

For surrender to really take its full effect we have to do it willingly; it can’t be forced or coerced. I think many of us said the “sinner’s prayer” and thought that the prayer alone ultimately meant surrender and maybe haven’t really seen the need for surrender ever since. On another hand, we have a majority who have surrendered but not entirely. I like to call them the “partial surrenders” . They have mastered the art of giving only a half of themself to God and don’t see a need for more. However surrender isn’t surrender if it’s partial or circumstantial, it’s only surrender when it’s full surrender meaning you have to be all in or nothing.

Where do you currently stand? fully surrendered, partially surrendered, or are you a circumstantial surrender?
